My work is initiated by moments of childlike discovery where beauty may be found within the mundane of my daily surroundings. Often when going on walks, I am drawn to examine discarded objects found on the ground. Usually small and insignificant, these pieces of natural and manmade debris typically go overlooked underfoot. Intentionally pausing to investigate them further, however, provides for moments of seeing where the objects’ histories may be considered and our daily habits of perception may be redirected.
Rooted in observation and contemplation, my work spans across drawing, painting, photography, and the artist book as I continually seek the most honest representation of my initial encounters and my ongoing reflections on the subject matter at hand. I utilize various approaches to mark making as a means to both accentuate objects but also manifest a moment of contemplation. Drawn and painted lines delineate physical edges of observed forms but also echo the circumambulatory paths of the mind.
